DAY 11: Fighting the mountain lions in my head

Monday 2nd September 2013: Deer Creek – Purple Lake – Virginia Lake: After breakfast I was
the first to get moving. I felt like hiking alone and I was pretty fast. The first 4 miles after Deer Creek I hiked uphill through a forest and I kinda freaked out cuz I imagined a mountain lion in every tree. As I saw three deer running away I stopped breathing for a sec and I heard my heart banging in my ears. I started imagining me being a wolf and I was all ready to fight. Meanwhile words came to my head. And I kept repeating and repeating and repeating them. Here’s how they go:

I AM TO BE WILD
Not to be tamed
Not to be caught
Not to be caged
I am like a fire
like hot burning flames
I am what should be
set out to be free
I’m not to be kept
in one place to stay
I’m not a hunter and
I’m not a prey
I’m raw like a wolf, like a bear, like a shark
I’m like a cat with eyes in the dark
Don’t come too close
Don’t hold for too long
KEEPING ME WILD
IS KEEPING ME STRONG
I’m ready to bite
I’m ready to fight
I’m not to be tamed
I AM TO BE WILD
While hiking like this I felt raw like an animal. Pretty caught up in my head and still so aware and awake. I felt like running away from everything, from people, from the mountain lions in my head. I considered to just keep going and going, not taking a break… But eventually Chalula and Tild caught me… I didn’t know how to feel…
At night I realised I’d been hiking way tooo fast cuz my knee was hurting like hell. We set up camp at Virginia Lake. Ah I took a swimm and washed all smell and worries off, I washed my clothes and hell yeah I found an outdoor toilet with A view!!!
The sun going down on the mountains around, spreading a beautiful atmosphere… O what a great place to camp… I’m peaceful now!
…YOU WERE MY WITNESS, MY EYES, MY EVIDENCE…
We all met up at Purple Lake and had lunch together
I love my dirty hands! They fuckin spice my food!!!!!

Tree lovers….
